FUE
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a more recent technique for extracting grafts (or follicular units: UF) used in hair transplantation. This is the so-called “hair by hair” technique, which has the advantage of not causing a scar on the scalp.
Hair transplantation mainly concerns people for whom hair loss becomes an obstacle to their social, private and professional development.
The causes of hair loss are often complex.
FUE is a modern, non-invasive technique where hair follicles are extracted one by one from the back of the head, generally the collection is done by hand. They are then manually re-established one by one in the bare areas.
FUE hair transplantation is generally recommended when the strip technique (FUT) is not the best indication. FUE has the advantage of not leaving a linear scar at the back of the head and its aftermath is particularly simple.
However, in the field of baldness, there is no “superior or better” technique than others, but a technique adapted to each patient according to their baldness and their desires.
Although common in many men, baldness is often poorly accepted psychologically by patients who experience it as premature aging, with the corollary of an alteration of self-confidence and discomfort which can go as far as real complex.
How is the harvesting of FUE grafts carried out?
For aesthetic purposes, it is essential to use high-precision collection punches, adapted to the hair collected.
As a general rule, the punches used range from 0.70 to 1.00 mm.
Too thin, there is a risk of transection and the possibility of not correctly removing the graft. Too large, we no longer talk about FUE, the incisions risk leaving a moth-eaten scar appearance.
The sample is taken under local anesthesia with specific microsurgery equipment in a suitable room.
It is strongly recommended to carry out a prior shaving of the donor area and the recipient area (approximately 1 mm in length) to facilitate the harvesting and implantation of the grafts by our experts.
The strong points of hair transplantation by Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):
- Return home the same day, no hospitalization
- Allow a week of professional unavailability
- Regrowth from 3 months
- No scars are visible in FUE.
WHAT ARE THE AFTERMATHS OF AN FUE GRAFT?
The aftermath of the operation is mainly marked by the appearance of edema (swelling) and bruising (bruising), the extent and duration of which varies greatly from one individual to another.
It is important to know that:
- a work stoppage of 4 to 8 days is recommended
- shampoo is allowed 4 days after the transplant
- the practice of a sporting activity can be resumed gradually from the 3rd post-operative week
- pain may persist for a few days, it will be calmed by the prescription of painkillers by our experts
A check-up visit with your doctor will take place 10 -12 days after the procedure
For micro-grafts, a small crust forms on each graft which often falls off after a week.
The transplanted hair falls out with the crust and then grows back between the second and third month. They grow by approximately 1 cm per month, which allows you to quickly appreciate the result.
How does a hair transplant using the (FUE) method take place?
Local anesthesia in the majority of cases, with premedication, or neurolep analgesia.
The transplant lasts between 3 hours and 6 hours, it all depends on the quantity of hair transplanted.
